Goals from Enzo Le Fée and Wilson Isidor turned the game around after Thiago had put the visitors in front. Early in the game, Outtara thought he had gotten his second goal since signing for Brentford when he ran through Brentford’s midfield on the counter but after slotting it home, the linesman flagged him offside.

The first half went pretty quietly as the game looked like it was going to see its first goal of the game at the hands of Kevin Schade. The Brentford midfielder opted to place the ball at the bottom left corner but Sunderland’s goalkeeper, Robin Roefs was fast to react and he saved the penalty.

Igor Thiago opened the scoring for the visitors when he met Onyeka’s cross in the 77th minute. Rico Henry grabs the shirt of a Sunderland player and Anthony Taylor quickly reached for his pocket, brandishes a yellow card for Henry. Unlike Schade earlier in the second half, Enzo La Fee buries the penalty in the bottom right corner.

Eight minutes were added after the 90 minutes and it looked like both teams were going to settle for a draw but Isidor said “Not today” as he leaped unto a lovely cross Granit Xhaka and headed to the left post. Kelleher was left in no man’s land. The VAR check for offside may have given the Bees the idea that they could still end with a draw but no, it wasn’t meant to be.

Sunderland may be newly promoted but we expect that with everything they’ve spent since challenges like this should be where they pick up valuable points as they hope to stay alive.
