I don’t know what Atalanta thought they were walking into but this one was over before it even had time to breathe because PSG just came in and started slicing them open like they had something personal against Bergamo as a city or something I don’t know but that first goal from Marquinhos yeah the centre-back of all people showing up inside the box in the third minute and tapping it home like he’s been playing striker all his life and you’re just like okay cool it’s going to be that kind of night isn’t it.
And honestly the way PSG were moving the ball around it was like watching someone play FIFA on beginner mode like the midfield was just open grass and Atalanta players were chasing shadows and then boom another chance Hakimi nearly scores and Ruiz is just doing whatever he wants pulling defenders left and right and still having time to deliver cheeky backheels like it’s an exhibition game and the crowd is loving it because the whole thing just feels unfair.
Carnesecchi, man that guy was working overtime in the Atalanta goal pulling out saves from all angles like how do you make three saves in the first ten minutes and still concede and still know you’re probably going to concede more because your defence has left the group chat and your midfield forgot their passports and Mbappé is not even on the pitch and they’re still cooking you like this.
Oh and there was that penalty yeah the one where Musah caught Marquinhos’ heel and they went to VAR and the ref checked the screen and pointed to the spot and you thought alright 2-0 coming up but then Barcola steps up and misses it and honestly that was the only moment Atalanta looked like they might be lucky tonight but even that luck had an expiry date because not long after they’re picking the ball out of the net again and this time it’s Nuno Mendes who embarrasses like two defenders and squeezes it through from a mad angle and now it’s 3-0 and I swear De Roon just gave up trying to mark people at that point.
And if you thought PSG were done you don’t know this team because they will run up the score if you give them space and sure enough in the 90th minute when Atalanta looked like they were begging for mercy Gonçalo Ramos says nope and punishes a lazy backpass and just dinks it over the keeper like he’s playing Sunday league with his mates and now it’s 4-0 and the camera cuts to Luis Enrique and the man looks like he just finished a walk in the park.
I need to say this now Luis Enrique is slowly cooking something serious because the way PSG pressed and moved tonight felt different like this wasn’t Neymar-Mbappé-Messi vibes of vibesball this was system ball with sauce and they’re not even playing at full gear yet and it’s scary.
Atalanta had like maybe two attacks all game and both times Carnesecchi had to bail them out again and again and even that wasn’t enough and you look at the body language and it’s just arms in the air and long stares at the turf and people avoiding eye contact and you already know they’re going back to Italy wondering what just hit them.
